Let’s Protect The Kids Future

In Southwick, we want to do the best by our children and help to give them a start in life by providing an environment where they can Learn & Thrive. We do this by providing support in education, mental health, food & nutrition and financial support, plus a network of group activities they would otherwise not be able to have access to .

Charities can only work with the support of donors or local community members who give time selflessly to volunteer in a number of roles to help. We are always looking for donors but even more so we are looking for volunteers who can spare time to man our local food bank and to provide support in education and support to the kids that use SNYP.

Our Impact

  • With the support of local businesses we are helping families with food parcels for those that have been affected by the pandemic and also for the most vulnerable families with young children.

  • I previously attended the SNYP youth club as a young person and first registered onto their careers programme way back in June 2014. I was in still in comprehensive school and needed to create an initial CV for work experience in a training and education firm. The careers worker would visit the school when required to work with young people on their CV’s over the student’s lunch break which worked really well and was a great help to me.

  • Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project offers a youth careers service via our full-time youth careers worker. We support Sunderland based job seekers looking to begin work, change their career or undertake new training and qualifications. We can work with anyone that is aged 25 or under and all support is free of charge thanks to our funders.

  • I was introduced to SNYP by my older brother Adam who now works there. I wanted to keep my options open and after leaving school in 2018, I signed up for the National Citizen Service to broaden my horizons and was also successful in joining the Tall Ships after they visited Sunderland where I joined the crew and sailed to Denmark learning how to hoist the sails and operate the ship! SNYP have supported me in preparing for a career in the aviation industry. This support led me to begin studying at the Aviation Academy in September 2018 near Newcastle Airport.

  • Working closely with Jugendamt, a brilliant Youth Organisation in Essen, we are able to give our young people the opportunity to experience a week meeting other youngsters from all over Europe and as far afield as China. They spend an action-packed week staying in a Youth Guest House, with a fully organised itinerary involving day trips, concerts, meeting dignitaries (including Essen’s “fantasy Mayor and the real Mayor) group sessions and of course plenty of recreational activities.

  • I first got to know about SNYP by seeing staff on the streets who were doing outreach, once I started to attend SNYP, I loved it! SNYP give a lot of great opportunities to young people.

  • SNYP have led many environmental projects in the local community. Positive projects include regular litter picks, clearing overgrowth and helping to restore the Acoustic Mirror in Fulwell Quarry, community tree and flower planting.

  • In terms of life experiences, I cannot deny that this trip was one of the best so far for me and has widened my view of the world, different cultures, and how many opportunities are out there for the young people of SNYP. The trip to Essen has been a highlight of my teenage life and I only have SNYP and the staff there to thank for it all.
